Bulletproof coffee has become a bit of a big "thing" and is really popular in the Paleo community It is supposed to help you gain energy and is actually has its own brand of coffee beans.  I personally enjoy my own version of a bulletproof coffee and recently shared a pic of my cup of java on Instagram and I some people raised some good questions about it.

Soooo before we get to the how-to of my own bulletproof cup of java….

Is coffee healthy?

I get asked this a lot and I think it's a loaded question. I think you truly need to take a peek at your current state of health and consider a several things.

Do you DEPEND on a cup {or more than one} to get going? How many cups do you drink a day? Are you generally stressed out and adding to the overall stress on your body… especially your adrenal glands? Do you drink enough water? Can you handle coffee or does it make you jittery and running for the toilet?

Get real with yourself.

Coffee certainly doesn't work for everyone and it can absolutely play a role in a bodies breakdown of energy, vitality and glow.

Personally, I love a quality cup of coffee. That means coffee made from organic, fair trade and sustainable beans ,whenever possible.

I am Canadian, and sometimes have Tim Horton's {fun fact: Timmy's was my first job...} but ensuring quality, is to avoid unnecessarily ingesting pesticides and any other artificial chemicals.

PS have you seen THIS Starbucks chatter about GMO'S?

I savour an afternoon coffee date with my husband or meeting up with a good friend over a cup of joe.

Oh, and I live in Europe part time… life without a bit of coffee would seem a little empty…

Here is how you can make your very own cup of bulletproof coffee at home …

  • 1 cup of coffee {organic, fair trade is best}
  • 1 Tbsp grass fed butter or ghee
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil {some use a MCT oil}
  • Option: add some vanilla extract, a bit of honey or stevia which makes it more like a latte

Add your coffee, butter/ghee and coco oil to a blender. Blend on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute until it's all creamy and frothy. Pour into your favourite mug + savour……

So, my recommendation is this…

  • If you love coffee, use good quality beans, and drink in moderation {no more than 1-2 cups a day}
  • Skip the cream and sugar and instead add some healthy fats with butter, ghee and/or coconut oil
  • Consume AFTER you had your AM warm water with lemon and another cup of water.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water all day {it takes two cups of water to make up for one cup of coffee you drink…. do the math and make sure you are hydrated}
  • Ideally drink your java no later than 3 PM so that it doesn't interfere with your beauty sleep.
  • Choose herbal tea's or natural coffee substitutes such as Dandy Blend when possible, or for a little caffeine a quality green tea is a wonderful choice too

Have a fantastic day my friend + cheers to switching up your usual coffee for a cup of bulletproof.
