6 ways to eat coco oil

One of my favourite quotes came from one of my best friends not long ago when she said that one of the best things about 2012 was coconut oil. That is a bold statement coming from a fabulous lady who was married and also bought a house in the same year.

However, I could not agree more! This stuff is life changing. It has simplified so many things in my kitchen, beauty regiment, travel and helping me improve my health all at the same time.

You have heard the hype, so HOW exactly, do you EAT more coconut oil?

In addition to using it on your skin it is a fabulous addition to your meals and snacks. Coconut oil will provide your body with healthy fat that contains several properties that aids in improving digestion, regulate metabolism, improve elimination {bowel movements}, reduce inflammation as well as provide anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial effect {and much much more!}.

Here are 6 ways to eat more coconut oil: 

  • Cook with it. This is a much more stable source to saute or cook with instead of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I find that a little goes a long way and while there is a hint of coconut, I really enjoy the flavour. 
  • Add to warm cereals: I add a big tablespoon to oatmeal or quinoa bowls in the AM for breakfast. This is super fabulous for your kids too! Miss Sloane usually gets coconut oil or some flax seed oil in her warm cereals.
  • Add to smoothies. It's great to add a tablespoon to your smoothies and if you want to avoid the clumps that can sometimes happen. To avoid clumping bring the coco oil to a liquid state by warming it up over some hot water.
  • Spread it. Use coconut oil in place of butter on your favourite piece of sprouted grain or gluten free bread, toasted.
  • Sub in your baking. You can use coconut oil in place of butter in most baking recipes.
  • Add to warm bevy's. I love adding a bit to my tea or coffee for a little extra kick. I also love using my new mini {but powerful} Bodum milk frother to make sure it is nicely mixed.

In this cup of warm goodness I've got Dandy Blend {my fav coffee substitute} + 1 Tbsp coconut oil + 1/4 cup almond milk and cinnamon frothed.
